Return to the Powerhouse for the Great Wall

Last week’s trip was a return to the Powerhouse for it’s Great Wall exhibit. You can check out the (tragic) ad on their site and on You Tube.

Overall, I thought the exhibit was well presented and informative. The upsides included a chronologically paced and organised history of the Wall, including occurrences within China and the region itself.  I found the changes in style and art shown in these snapshots of time useful in interpreting the written history. Add to the bits of crockery and wall, videos, stuff for kids (a crossbow game!) and a very cool changing panorama of the wall set to music and the experience was worth it.

Or was it?

The cost of entry is $18 and this also includes entry to the rest of the Powerhouse. Having been to the museum relatively recently I had no desire to see the museum and just wanted to visit the Great Wall exhibit.  If you haven’t been to the museum before the overall cost is probably a good deal, particularly if you like China. On the other hand if you don’t want to see the rest of the museum then the $18 is quite steep and should give you pause.
